More from Empire Writes Back

  • Leonard Williams: 84

    • Giving Leo a rating that is at the top of the team is more than fair. Based on performance some may argue he is currently the best player on the team. His play recognition rating of 86 makes sense as we watch him play.
  • Steve McLendon: 83

    • McLendon has an exceptional block shedding rating of 86 to go along with his overall. He has better than many expected him to be and his 83 is very fair. He’s not “Snacks” but he has done a good job in the middle for New York.
  • Henry Anderson: 80

    • This rating might be a reach or it might be accurate, we just don’t know yet. Anderson is a guy that showed some promise in Indianapolis but spent too much time on the sidelines. He has only been active for 29 games in three seasons. He posted 22 tackles and two sacks last season before falling to injury, so we shall see.
  • Courtney Upshaw: 73

    • Upshaw is a guy that some fans wanted when he came out of Alabama in 2012. He has played in the Super Bowl for both the Ravens and the Falcons and recorded a sack for the Falcons. This rating is about right but could increase if he earns a big role here in New York.
  • Deon Simon: 72

    • Simon is a rotational piece that doesn’t see a ton of snaps. 72 is a fair number for him.
  • Xavier Cooper and Brandon Copeland: 71

    • Copeland’s rating is a little high being that he has recorded .5 sacks and 19 tackles in his two-year career. Cooper played a part in the Jets rotation and posted a 75.3 on Pro Football Focus. His rating of 71 makes sense.
  • Mike Pennel: 68

    • With 303 defensive snaps last season and 35 tackles, this rating is low. This should be around a 70 or a 71.
  • Nathan Shepherd: 70

  • Folorunso Fatukasi: 66

    • Here are the two rookies we will see the most of during training camp. We can’t say much about these rating until these guys take the field and show what they can do.
