Some New York Yankees rumors have Baltimore Orioles star Manny  Machado coming to the Bronx. However, the Yankees do not need to get him.

As the MLB trade deadline approaches at the end of this month, the question is will the New York Yankees get a starting pitcher, which they desperately need, or someone else before the deadline?

Although pitching is an obvious need, the New York Yankees are now rumored to be one of the many teams that are trying to get Baltimore Orioles star Manny Machado.

According  to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Yankees have increased interest in Machado, who is the biggest player on the trading block.

Sources told Rosenthal that the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Milwaukee Brewers are the front-runners for landing Machado.

While the Yankees haven’t made an offer for Manny, which is surprising the Dodgers, Brewers, Diamondbacks, Phillies, Braves, Indians, and the Cubs have made offers for the Orioles star, according to Eduardo A. Encina of the Baltimore Sun.

Machado, who is hitting .309 with 21 home runs and 60 RBIs this season, would be another star for a team that’s already packed with stars.

But do the Yankees really need him? The answer is no. The Yankees infield is packed with stars like Gleyber Torres, Didi Gregorius, and Miguel Andujar. There just isn’t any room for Machado.

If the Yankees get Machado, then they might want to move him to third base which is something he won’t do.

“I’m a shortstop,’’ Machado told Dan Martin of the New York Post. “I play shortstop.”

The big question surrounding a Machado trade to the Yankees is who would New York send to Baltimore?

Would they send Gregorious or Andujar to Baltimore? I say that they would send Andujar because I don’t see the Yankees giving up Gregorious. Andujar has been great on offense but there are concerns about his defense making him more expendable.

If the Yankees don’t trade Andujar for Machado, then they would probably send Brandon Drury to Baltimore for Machado.

One thing that could be driving the Yankees interest in Machado is Orioles closer Zach Britton. Jon Heyman of FanCred Sports reported that the Yankees would be interested in a package deal for Machado that would include Britton.

As we’ve said many times before, starting pitching is the Yankees biggest need. But they’re having trouble finding a starting pitcher so Britton would be able to help them. The Yankees would able to add a starting pitcher if they got Machado but didn’t get Britton.

While the Yankees would love to get Machado, they don’t need him since they already have stars of their own.

Getting Machado would be bad for the Yankees. It would cost them one or more of their star players and the Yankees can’t afford to lose any of their star players for the long-term future.
