New York Jets 2018 Positional Battles: Tight end
Chris Herndon
Now we take a look at the rookie. Chris Herndon was the Jets fourth round selection in the April draft. Like Walford he is from Miami University and we know the talent that has come from that school. Herndon is no exception, with 86 catches, 1,048 yards and seven touchdowns in his three years in sunny Florida. He arrives with the Jets and is looking to make his mark.
The road hasn’t been smooth for Herndon, figuratively and literally. If anyone forgot, Herndon was arrested for DWI for crashing into an SUV driven by a 76-year-old. We are still waiting for this case to play out and to see whether or not Herndon will receive discipline either from the law or from the league. Regardless, this is a major red flag.
Forget the fact that he is lucky he didn’t kill the guy. That’s the most important part. But from a football standpoint, you have to question whether or not this young man can handle himself off the field. This could be just one isolated incident or it could be a pattern. The Jets are going to have to keep an eye on Chris Herndon. He has the potential to make this team and be a quite effective weapon. Let’s see how he does during camp.
