As training camp rapidly approaches, we take a look at the positional battles that will define the New York Jets, starting with tight end.

It’s hard to imagine as we come off that brutal heat wave that football is coming, but it really is. Our beloved New York Jets arrive for training camp in Florham Park, NJ on July 27th. That is just over two weeks away as this post goes live. We may be in the dog days of summer but the football season is just on the horizon.

Last season, Austin Seferian-Jenkins notched 50 receptions for 357 yards and three touchdowns. He wasn’t the threat they might have hoped but he certainly was a consistent safety valve option. Under John Morton the tight end returned to prominence with the Jets offense. This year, with the promotion of Jeremy Bates that looks to be something that will continue.

But there is no more Austin Seferian-Jenkins who is off to Jacksonville. Many thought he would be back but he priced himself out of our range for the position. So we have a crop of tight ends in the fold and it will be an interesting group to watch. How will things play out with this battle? Let’s take a deep dive into the position today.
