New York Mets: Five players who need to survive the pending roster purge
Michael Conforto
Here is a player that some have mixed feelings about and it is understandable. Michael Conforto has been streaky and is wildly inconsistent. Last season he hit .279 with 27 home runs and 68 RBI. This year he is hitting .224 with ten home runs. Conforto goes on wonderful runs where he looks like Tony Gwynn but goes into long slumps where he couldn’t hit the ball if it were a volleyball.
One good sign is that he plays well in big moments. Back in 2015 he drove in three runs during the World Series against the Royals and hit a home run against the Los Angeles Dodgers. When the chips are down Conforto can hit. Conforto has such a natural swing it is actually pretty to watch. See for yourself:
Conforto is versatile on defense, appearing at all three positions in the outfield. Not only is he versatile, he is also good. His career fielding percentage is .984 at all outfield positions. This is the type of player, at only 25 years old, that the team should be keeping around. Conforto is talented enough to be here for when things turn around.
