Brandon Nimmo
Now here is a guy nobody expected to hear from but has rapidly become a fan favorite. The resounding assumption heading into 2018 was that Amed Rosario would be the team’s leadoff hitter. However, his on-base percentage to date has been .285 which is not even close to a good number. Therefore he has found himself at the bottom of the lineup.
Injuries have given Brandon Nimmo a chance to play and he has made the most of it. He has already gotten to the plate a career high number of times (223) and is batting .265 with an on-base percentage of .386. For a while he was sustaining that OBP at over .400. Leading off the game his OBP is .422. They call that setting the table.
Nimmo has gone from obscurity to a write-in candidate for the All-Star game. He is only 25 years old. He is only making $555,000 and doesn’t even become arbitration eligible until the year 2020. Remember how it works in baseball. Nimmo is young, talented and under team financial control. There is no reason to send this young man anywhere.
