New York Jets: Five early bold predictions for the 2018 season
Trumaine Johnson Makes his First Pro Bowl
Todd Bowles needs shutdown corners to make his defense work. When Darrelle Revis fell off the career cliff we saw the defense exposed. Trumaine Johnson was the prize of free agency not named Kirk Cousins. The Jets signed him and the fans were pumped up. Finally this defense has a young star corner to help them turn things around.
Johnson’s interception totals have fallen off over recent years, with only three in the past two years. He put up 15 in his first four years in the league. Just like Revis in his prime, quarterbacks starting going away from him and not throwing in his direction. The surprise is that he somehow hasn’t been selected to a Pro Bowl yet.
That is going to change in 2018. Trumaine Johnson is going to be one of the highlights of the Jets defense. He will see his fair share of targets, his “shut down” ability isn’t like that of Revis in his prime. Johnson will get challenged but he will make good on some of those. He is excited to play for the Jets DB coach and that will show in his production.
Look for him to put up five interceptions and finally earn a trip to the Pro Bowl.
Mark it down.
