New York Mets: The internet has spoken, even Reddit is done with them
Let’s be honest, it was only a matter of time before Mets fans on Reddit made it known how they really feel about the club’s 2018 season.
It’s official. The internet has finally thrown in the towel on the New York Mets. It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone at this point. After all, it’s no secret that the Amazins are in the middle of one of their worst seasons in recent memory. However, what is surprising is that it took this long for some fans to finally reach their breaking point.
After New York imploded against the Pittsburgh Pirates Wednesday night, a disgruntled Mets fan by the username PM_ME_UR_FEET_PICS_ took to Reddit and posted “It’s over folks. If this gets 1000 upvotes, this sub’s theme will be enthusiasts of the Metropolitan Museum of Art” in r/NewYorkMets, the team’s subreddit. Apparently, that was all that was needed for complete anarchy to takeover.
Whether it’s a massive troll job by the internet hate machine or just members of the Flushing Faithful coping with a lost season through humor, r/NewYorkMets has been flooded with nothing but Metropolitan Museum of Art posts since Wednesday’s loss and some of the things posted have been pure comedy gold.
Absolutely nothing was off limits and anyone browsing the subreddit could easily tell that these posts were cathartic in every sense of the word for the community. Some of the highlights include:
- William the Hippo for team MVP and the gem of a comment: “Why does the Met keep signing all these old pieces to huge contracts?!!! I love William the Hippo but you can tell he’s dealing with injuries.”
- This fan’s moment in the sun with one of his favorite Mets.
- The Mets’ new five-tool prospect… With five legs.
- Busts acquisitions and the lone comment “With an arm like that this guy could be the new closer!”
- Wondering when the guy with the ear injury will come off the DL.
- And of course, this one directly related to Wednesday night’s loss.
There were also a few serious posts about the history of the Met and it’s art, if you’re into that sort of thing, and even a member of r/museumpros jumped in on the action in an attempt to get their subreddit more subscribers.
Next: It's Tebow Time for New York
Reddit moderators have since stepped in and plans to remove any further Museum related posts from r/NewYorkMets after 11:59pm this past Thursday night. However, it’s safe to say that Mets fans have made their point.
