New York Yankees catcher Gary  Sanchez has been put on the 10-day disabled list with a right knee injury. However, it’s a good thing, not a bad thing.

The New York Yankees placed catcher Gary Sanchez on the 10-day disabled list on Monday with a Grade 1 right groin stain.

The Yankees also recalled catcher Kyle Higashioka and right-handed pitcher Giovanny Gallegos and sent outfielder Clint Frazier back to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Sanchez suffered the injury while trying to beat out a double play in the tenth inning of Sunday’s loss to the Tampa Bay Rays. Yankees manager Aaron Boone says the team expects Sanchez to be out for three to four weeks, according to ESPN’s Cole Harvey.

“It’s bothering me right now,” Sanchez said through a translator after Sunday’s game, per J. Scott Butherus of MLB.com. “What can I say, that’s how baseball is sometimes. You never want something bad to happen to you, but that’s part of baseball. Now I’m hoping it’s not a long time.”

Backup catcher Austin Romine, who is hitting .305 with four home runs and 20 RBIs, will replace Sanchez until he returns. Sanchez has struggled this season, as he’s hitting .190 and has a .291 on-base percentage. However, he does have 14 home runs, which puts him among the Yankees leaders.

Former Yankee catcher, Jorge Posada, believes that Sanchez going on the disabled list is a good thing he told ESPN New York’s Humpty & Canty:

"“I always look at things positive. This might be a positive thing for the Yankees, [Sanchez is] a hell of a hitter. He’s going to hit. He’s going to hit.Like I said, this might be a good thing for him. Able to regroup, able to work on some things and come back strong.”"

I agree with Posada that this is a good thing for Sanchez.

While he is recovering, Sanchez will be able to work on his hitting and anything else that he’s struggling with. He will be able to come back better than he was before.

Athletes can come back from an injury and perform better than they did before they got the injury.

I think that Sanchez will be better when he comes back than he is now as long as he puts in the work to get better.

So, don’t worry Yankees fans, the Sanchez injury is actually a good thing.
