With the infamous Garnett-Pierce trade finally over, which costed them years of winning, the Brooklyn Nets took Dzanan Musa. But, with so many great players still on the board why would they take a bench player from Croatia?

With players such as Keita Bates-Diop, Gary Trent, Devonte Graham, Jevon Carter, Jalen Brunson and many others on the board, why would the Nets take Dzanan Musa?

The Brooklyn Nets need help with quite literally every position.

With the exception of D’Angelo Russell, and to an extent Spencer Dinwiddie, the Nets do not have a player who they can seriously say is there for the long haul. With the pick of Musa it makes you seriously wonder what the Nets were thinking.

They could have gotten a player in Keita Bates-Diop who has the potential to be a very good player, and the biggest steal of the draft. Last season at THEE Ohio State University, Bates-Diop averaged 19.8 points, 8.7 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game.

Those numbers happen to be very similar to the top two picks, Marvin Bagley and Deandre Ayton.

With numbers like that why would the Nets pass up on him to pick someone who didn’t even start for Cedevita?

The Nets saw a project, they saw someone who if he pays off can be a very good player for the Nets and has the potential to be the next great international player. Musa is a 6’9″ 195 pound Small Forward from Bosnia who played professionally for Cedevita Zagreb in Croatia.

If Musa can put on some weight in an effort to get stronger and fight for some boards, he could see some minutes for the Nets down the road. If this is the case, the Nets might’ve fooled us all and selected someone who could be a huge steal in this year’s draft.

This is a pick that is rather puzzling but that is the Nets. Maybe the new regime wants a fresh start and an unexpected type of approach. However, this pick is little known and they passed on near guranteed talent.
