The New York Knicks, much to some people’s chagrin, should not shy away from Michael Porter Jr. That is crazy talk.

Since my last two mock drafts, I’ve heard from fans and writers alike that the New York Knicks should shy away from drafting Michael Porter Jr. if he falls to them. Also, that they should by no means trade up for him. I think that is wrong.

So, instead, let me take a minute to draw out a scenario so you can see how crazy not taking a talent like Porter really is.

Porter has the ability to be the top talent of the draft. In my opinion, he his number two overall prospect coming out this year.  He has the potential to not only change an offense but be a dynamic number one scorer.

If Porter does happen to fall to the Knicks, Steve Mills should walk over to  GM Scott Perry and hug him with the warmest embrace and say ‘wow we actually have a plan that’s going to work.’

The biggest issue with Porter Jr. is his injury proneness. However, the Knicks would not need to throw him into action right away if they draft him. With Kristpas Porzingis potentially out for the season, it only make senses to unleash the potential duo together down the road.

That means once the Knicks draft Porter and allow him to see the best doctors in the world, he will rehab properly and correctly giving him enough time to be at the top of his game.

Just like the Philadelphia 76ers found out this year with Joel Embiid, good things come to those who wait when it comes to injury prone prospects.

The Knicks have been broken for some time and have only recently began to show true reason, understanding, and patience on how to fix the allotment of issues.

The major step that everyone doesn’t understand is that the Knicks may be in position to wait out some of their own bad contracts and use that space to attack the roster gaps next year.

Now, there is potential for the Knicks to take full advantage of everything the current front office wants to do, rebuild slowly. The only problem is that the Knicks have said before they were going to rebuild the right way before.

They always say this then give horrible contracts and throw it off. However, this time things feel a little different. Scott Perry has been in horrible situations before and has been willing to build everything the right way in Orlando and briefly in Sacramento.

As for new Coach David Fizdale, he knows he needs more fire power. So, his focus will be on grooming and breaking out every ounce of potential out of Porter.

The next young player that would be great for the Knicks and for Fizdale to train and get the most out of is guess who? Michael Porter Jr.

It’s time for the Knicks to stop being scared. Don’t listen to the all the outside noise, if the medical staff gives the green light for a player of Porter’s caliber, make it happen.

After that, sit back for the rest of the draft and draft the players that fulfill positional needs.

Would I love to see the Knicks make a play for a dominant center in DeAndre Ayton? Of course I would.

However, at number nine, Porter Jr. is a real possibility. He will be an effective replacement for the lack of forward position with his elite size.

Next: Leonard won't join the Knicks

So, Knicks, I think Michael Porter would be a great pick and will be given the time he needs to get healthy and properly acclimate to this level. Let’s make it happen!
