Making these types of lists are always tough. The New York Islanders team are another team where the all-timers got it done. However, you cannot write the history of the Isles without John Tavares

John Tavares is one of the most polarizing players in the history of the New York Islanders. He is an elite scorer but his talents have brought nothing more than one playoff round victory.

The way I look at this is as so, you cannot write about the history of the New York Islanders without John Tavares. Plain and simple.

The number one overall pick has been with the Isles through good and bad. It has been mostly bad too.

Although his current future is uncertain, he is still and always will be an all-time Islanders star. He carried the load for years and made countless all-star games. No one will ever be able to take that away from him.

Like many others on this list, his story is not completed. But either way, right now, and if it never happens, John Tavares is the best Islanders player to never bring a championship to New York.

He is the captain and is single-handedly controlling players aspect of the offseason for the Isles right now. He will do until he chooses where to sign.

The Isles won four straight championships in the 1980’s and they put the Islanders on the map. However, the Isles are losing that spot in the market they so desperately earned.

John Tavares is the guy that came to the Islanders after those 80’s teams but more importantly, after a whole lot of nothing.

The Islanders are finally looking to turn that corner. Hopefully, John Tavares is a part of it. But no matter what he will always be an all-time Islanders star.

It just so happens he has never brought a championship to the market. At least not yet.

An honorable mention is Frans Nielsen.

Let’s move on to the Rangers.
