The New York Jets only have one Super Bowl title so most of their all-time greats have never one it. However, Mark Gastineau is the best.

The New York Jets do not have all the accolades a lot of their fellow New York teams have. They do have one Super Bowl but it was so long ago that Jets fans need to grab onto anything cool they can.

One of the most talked about eras of Jets football is the “New York Sack Exchange.” They were beasts in the early 1980s and dominated the opposing offenses.

The guy who emerged above them all is Mark Gastineau. The defensive end racked up over 100 career sacks and made the Pro Bowl 5x.

Gastineau finished his Jets career with limited team success but he had already emerged himself as an all-time NFL great.

His abrupt retirement and poor relationship that followed is a story for another day. But had he stuck around longer he would have shattered not only Jets records but NFL records.

Being in the Jets’ Ring of Honor might be the only thing the fans have to looks at when remembering his football career but everyone still knows how good he actually was.

It is a good thing that Gastineau is tackling all his personal demons. That might be his biggest accomplishment yet.

But all else aside, Gastineau is an all-time great Jet. When the Jets finally end their curse and return the Lombardi to their side of Met Life, they need to remember Mark Gastineau’s impact on the franchise.

What a beast he was for Gang Green.

Curtis Martin is an honorable mention.
