New York Mets: Mets won’t trade deGrom or Syndergaard to the Yankees
By Alex Jordan
As the Subway series gets underway on Friday, there have been talks about a New York Mets-New York Yankees trade. However, it isn’t going to happen.
On May 18 the back cover of the New York Daily News featured a pic of New York Mets pitchers Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard in New York Yankee pinstripes.
The Daily News’s John Harper wrote that the Mets should consider trading both Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard, or at least one of them to the Yankees.
Under Harper’s trade proposal the Mets would get either Estevan Florial, Clint Frazier or Justus Sheffield from the Yankees.
However, a Yankees-Mets trade isn’t going to happen. Trading deGrom and/or “Thor” would mean the Mets would have to do a complete rebuild.

Even though GM Sandy Alderson isn’t thinking about a rebuild, the Mets would still probably listen to trade deals.
“You’d have to at least listen,” a team source told Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News. “but nothing is happening now.”
The Yankees are a team that could use deGrom or Syndergaard. With Jordan Montgomery being out for the rest of the season, due to Tommy John surgery, the Yankees need help with their rotation as starting pitching has been a weakness for them.
Luis Severino has been the best starter, he is 9-1 with a 2.20 ERA and has 102 strikeouts. The other Yankee starters have been up and down. They have 16 wins in 46 starts and a combined ERA over 4.
If the Yankees want to get to the World Series, then they have to get Severino some help and bolster the bottom half of their rotation.
“I feel like we need pitching more than anything else,” Yankees general manager Brian Cashman told MLB.com before the Montgomery news broke, according to ESPN’s Coley Harvey.
While the Yankees need help with pitching, it would be stupid and wrong for the Mets to send deGrom and/or Syndergaard to the Bronx.
By sending them to the Yankees would mean the Mets would lose their two best pitchers.
“Thor” is 4-1 with a 3.06 ERA and is expected to come off the disabled list on Sunday. Jacob deGrom is 4-0 with a 1.49 ERA, which leads the National League, and is third in the NL in strikeouts with 98.
The Mets are struggling and are having a disappointing season as they are in fourth place in the NL East. They have lost six straight games and 11 of their last 13 games.
Sending deGrom and/or Syndergaard to the Yankees won’t turn things around for the Mets. It will actually make them even worse than they are now.
Next: Mets must keep Jacob and Noah
So, we can stop with all the talk about a Mets-Yankees trade, because it isn’t going to happen.
