New York Knicks: Potential draft trade scenarios to get Luka Doncic or Marvin Bagley III
The draft is rapidly approaching and with that being said we need to take a look at all of the possibilities the New York Knicks can do with that pick. One of those possibilities being using that pick to trade up.
The New York Knicks will likely use their first round pick to draft a point guard or a small forward. The reason for this being the fact that Trey Burke’s contract expires following the 2018-19 season and they are lacking in the small forward department. If they were to stay in their ninth pick slot then they will likely go after players such as Collin Sexton, Mikal Bridges, Miles Bridges or possibly Wendell Carter or Trae Young if they aren’t off the board yet.
But there is also the possibility of trading up for a player such as Marvin Bagley III, or Luka Doncic if he were to leave the Euro League for the NBA. In order to get either of these players the Knicks would likely have to trade up to the fourth pick where the Grizzlies currently sit.
The only way the Knicks would trade up would be if Luka Doncic or Marvin Bagley III were to fall to the fourth pick. If neither of these were to happen they would keep their ninth pick and take who they could get because it would not be worth their assets to trade up.
A trade of this magnitude would take much more than just the ninth overall pick, but it is a trade that could be made possible with the pieces the Knicks currently have. Pieces such as either Trey Burke or Enes Kanter, who are both going into their last season under contract.
Let’s take a look at possible trades and scenarios of who the Knicks could take if they were to trade up in the draft:
