Left Tackle: Winston Hill

One of the most underappreciated players in NFL history on a national scale is one of the more beloved locally. We know how important the left tackle is to the quarterback. The blind side was especially important to Joe Namath who wasn’t exactly able to scramble around much. That made the performance of Winston Hill that much greater. It also made him that much more deserving of a place on this roster.

Minus three games, Hill spent his entire career with New York (1963-1976). During that time he was selected as an AFL all-star four times and selected to the Pro Bowl four times. Namath’s best games and years happened with Winston Hill helping him out. He was up front for the likes of Emerson Boozer, Matt Snell and John Riggins. Hill is part of the Jets four decades team and he is second team all-time AFL team.

Despite all of these accomplishments, Hill hasn’t even sniffed Canton. He has not even seen himself nominated. If you ask any fan from this era you will be told that this is an injustice. Hill was one of the best tackles of his era and arguably any era. Although he is not in the hall, he must be on this roster. Younger fans might argue for D’Brickashaw Ferguson, but Hill edges him out for a spot. Don’t worry, “Brick” would have a spot on the team, just not as the starter.
