Noah Syndergaard goes on 10 day DL with finger injury

New York Mets pitching rotation takes a big hit as Noah Syndergaard goes on the 10-day disabled list with a finger injury.
No athlete is safe from injury, not even Thor. The New York Mets announced on Tuesday that Noah Syndergaard on the 10 day disabled list with a strained index finger on his pitching hand. The move is retroactive to May 26.
Syndergaard is the 11th Mets player to go on the disabled list, joining Yoenis Cespedes, Travis d’Arnaud, Wilmer Flores, Todd Frazier, Juan Lagares, Rafael Montero, A.J. Ramos, T.J. Rivera, Anthony Swarzak and David Wright. He is the third pitcher to go on the disabled list after Jason Vargas and Jacob deGrom. It’s the second straight year that he has gone on the disabled list.
Thor is 4-1 with a 3.06 ERA and 76 strikeouts in 11 starts this season. The Mets haven’t named a replacement for Thor in the rotation or made a change to their roster with Thor on the DL, according to ESPN.
Syndergaard was scheduled to start Wednesday against the Atlanta Braves. The Mets will consider having Vargas start in place of Syndergaard on Wednesday, according to Greg Joyce of the New York Post.
If they don’t go with Vargas, then relievers Robert Gsellman and Seth Lugo are possibilities to make the start. Rookie P.J. Conlon, who the Mets used on Monday is another possibility. The Mets could also call up someone from the minor leagues.
Next: Mets should trade for a starter
Syndergaard going on the disabled list isn’t good for the Mets, who don’t have a lot of depth when it comes to starting pitchers. Thor was number two on the Mets rotation depth chart behind deGrom. Thor being out will hurt the Mets pitching since he and deGrom are their best pitchers right now. Zach Wheeler, Steven Matz and Vargas have been struggling and Thor being out won’t help the Mets pitching problems.
The Mets are 26-25 and are in fourth place in the NL East. They are 9-16 in the month of May and their rotation won’t be getting better with Syndergaard out.
