The Vegas Golden Knights are just a team that is good. But they also just have fun. They play fun. The pregame shows are fun. Everything is more laid back.

It could be just that the Golden Knights are a new team and trying to spark up a following in their first year or it could be just culture. But whatever it is, it is working and the New York Islanders can learn something from it.

The Vegas Golden Knights’ Twitter account is brilliant. It is funny, petty, savage, whatever adjective you want to use. But it is not boring or cliché. They are a great follow on Twitter and it makes the games so much more fun to watch.

But aside from that, just in general, the Golden Knights have fun with it. The pregame stuff on the ice feels more like a show.

The team plays fun too. Score a lot of goals while having a goalie who makes highlight reel saves. It is their brand of hockey and it is working so far.

The Islanders need to do this stuff too. It is tough to be a team that has fun playing in the usually serious New York market but it will change things for the better.

The Islanders’ Twitter account is professional and informative but it’s rarely funny or cheerful during games. They should change that, make things more entertaining.

The players try to play with fun. I get that not meeting high expectation (which the Knights do not deal with yet) is draining and frustrating but having a more fun identity will make the fans happy and change the culture.

It is still a professional sport. It also should not be a clown show. But it should still be a type of show.

It should be fun being an Islanders fan or player on or off the ice. The Golden Knights are pulling it off. Lamoriello and Doug Weight are old school guys but they can still try to adapt to the new-school hockey.

Let’s finish with one last way the Islanders can learn from the Golden Knights’ run.
