New York Yankees vs Washington Nationals Series Preview/Predictions
Game Two Matchup and Prediction
In what could be one of the last times we see Bryce Harper go up against the Yankees, we will see an outstanding pitching matchup between CC Sabathia and Max Scherzer.
Pitching Matchup:
CC Sabathia: 2-0, 2.23 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, 36.1 IP, 32 H, 28 K, 5 BB, 4 HR
Max Scherzer: 7-1, 1.69 ERA, 0.82 WHIP, 58.2 IP, 35 H, 91 K, 13 BB, 4 HR
CC Sabathia has been pretty good this season boasting an impressive 2.23 ERA and 1.02 WHIP, but he is only 2-0 even though he has started in seven games. Despite impressing on the mound, he consistently fails to get help offensively, and based on who is taking the bump for the Nats, it will probably be more of the same Wednesday night.
Max Scherzer has been absolutely outstanding this season. His 91 strikeouts in nine starts are simply unheard of and in those nine games, he has won seven of them to go along with a 1.69 ERA and 0.82 WHIP. Scherzer has been amazing and unless the Yankees can figure out something no other team has, which is how to beat Scherzer, it will be tough to win.
Next: Bryce Harper to the Yankees?
Prediction: Nationals 5 Yankees 1
Simply put, the New York Yankees will struggle greatly against Max Scherzer. Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton will continue to rack up strikeouts while Didi Gregorius brings in the Yankees’ lone run. CC Sabathia will have a decent outing but once again, he will fail to get offensive help which will lead to a loss for the Bronx Bombers.
Game two will be tough for the Yankees and unless they can figure out how to get hits off Scherzer, I don’t see them winning this game.
