Week Five: vs. Denver Broncos

More from Empire Writes Back

The Broncos were a team that could have given the Jets fits in the NFL draft. They were thought of as a team that needed a quarterback and might trade up in front of the Jets to get who they like. It turned out that John Elway was happy with his acquisition of Case Keenum so the Jets were free to select Darnold. The Jets shouldn’t sleep on Keenum after the season he had with the Vikings last year.

There has been turnover on the Broncos defense but Von Miller is still there. In three games against the Jets, Miller has posted 4.5 sacks and 16 tackles. The quarterback doesn’t matter when that guy is staring down the opponent. Miller will do what he has to do to keep his team in the game, especially against the Jets offensive line which is a work in progress as we all know.

This defense is going to give the Jets fits. Especially if Darnold is under center, which most of us hope is happening by week five. Rookie quarterbacks spend much of year one seeing defenses they have never seen before. Miller and the Broncos will do just that on this day at MetLife Stadium.

Keenum will not tear the Jets up. Despite the 2017 that he put in, the Jets secondary will have had time to get their communication down. Trumaine Johnson will have found his footing by now and the defense will keep this game close. However, the Jets take the loss in a close one and fall to 2-3.
