Winner: The Kids

It’s easy to forget that Aaron Judge, Gary Sanchez, and Luis Severino are under the age of 26 and still beginning their MLB careers. However, they seem like old veterans compared to Miguel Andujar and Gleyber Torres!

Andujar (23 years old) may only be hitting .192 over the last seven days, but his lone RBI was a huge one as the third baseman hit a walk-off single against the Cleveland Indians on Friday. Andujar’s cold week just shows how red-hot he was the week before as he’s hitting .293 with seven doubles and a home run over the last 15 days. The youngster may have only had five hits this week but he scored four runs.

Andujar’s walk-off single would end up overshadowing Torres’s first career home run! Torres (21) has only been in the major leagues for just over two weeks, but what an impressive two weeks they’ve been. This past week, in particular, has been fantastic for Gleyber. Torres has hit .333 with two home runs and nine RBI since the calendar turned to May! Torres’s two homers were the first of his career and a walk-off homer against Cleveland.  He’s also played such slick defense at second base that he’s drawn comparisons to Roberto Alomar and Robinson Cano.

One week, two walk-offs from Yankee rookies! These kids are here to stay as New York’s loaded farm system continues to produce impact MLB players. Andujar and Torres are most definitely winners this week.
