New York Giants: A way-too-early look at 2019 NFL Draft targets
The 2018 NFL Draft may barely be in the rearview mirror, but it never hurts to start looking ahead, especially since the New York Giants will soon have plenty of holes on their roster that need to be filled.
The New York Giants had an excellent draft last weekend that was praised by several draft pundits. Yet, there are still some glaring holes on their roster that still need to be addressed. The free agent market doesn’t have much to offer at this point in the offseason, so it looks like the Giants may have to slog through a rebuilding year and address their needs in 2019.
Next year’s free agent class has several quality players at positions where the Giants could use an upgrade, but there’s no guarantee they’ll land each free agent they want, despite the amount of cap space they’ll have in 2019. That being said, the 2019 draft class is loaded with talent that could push the Giants one step closer to contender status.
Before we delve into the article, I’ll mention this from the outset: No quarterbacks were included on this list. Don’t get me wrong, though. I’m completely aware that quarterback is a need the Giants will eventually have to address. However, head coach Pat Shurmur has already said that he believes that Eli Manning has a few years of championship-caliber football left in the tank and I completely believe that he means what he says.
Shurmur has a league-wide reputation as a “quarterback whisperer” and, when you look at the incredible job he did with Case Keenum in Minnesota last season, there’s no doubt in my mind that a signal caller as talented as Manning will see a resurgence in 2018 under New York’s new head coach.
