Sam Darnold

More from Empire Writes Back

The quarterback is here, but who knew it would be THIS quarterback? Sam Darnold was supposed to be the number one choice. Frankly it seemed like it was all over but the announcement. But Baker Mayfield came around the outside and overtook Darnold in the hearts and minds of the Browns, leaving Darnold primed for a trip to Gotham.

We have talked about him a lot already but we will summarize. Darnold has all of the tools to make a wonderful NFL quarterback. He can make all of the throws and can escape with his feet.

He just seems to need some cleaning up with his footwork. In its current state it just appears like it will get him in trouble at the next level. With the number three overall pick they need a guy that is ready to play immediately. The fan base was split on Josh Rosen and Baker Mayfield. When Baker went to the Browns, that left Rosen.

Darnold isn’t a bad pick, but in this writer’s humble opinion, they left the best quarterback prospect on the board.
