NFL Mock Draft: How would the draft look if the order was reversed?
Now that the more mediocre teams are drafting the higher rated players are going to start flying off the board. Hopefully, the teams who need better players most still get them.
The Lions always need help on defense. Since Matt Patricia is a rookie head coach it makes sense for the Lions front office to play it safe this draft and get the best defensive player available.
Chubb is the safest pick besides Saquon Barkley, who still went No. 1 overall. The Lions will find a need for him and he will thrive in that role.
One of the best players in this entire draft is going to be put into a great position here. The Lions always focus on defense and Chubb can be king. The Lions have their QB, have their new coach, and now they acquire their pass rusher.
The Cowboys’ biggest elephant in the room is that they lost Dez Bryant this offseason. But in this instance, they also lose out on some top wide receivers in this draft class. So, they are forced to settle.
That is, however, okay. The Cowboys still have Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott. The offense should still be fine without a top WR. The Cowboys can address that later in the draft.
Going defense here makes sense for the Cowboys. They always struggle on defense for random games. Edmunds is one of the top players left for them here.
The Seahawks need an offensive lineman. But Russell Wilson might not. He still killed it this season despite almost no protection, therefore, I think o-line is a pressing need for Seattle but not the most urgent.
They do, however, need to replace Richard Sherman. By reaching high and taking Josh Jackson here they take the same risk they did on Sherman. Jackson can be the guy they are losing in Sherman and is obviously much cheaper.
This is one of the biggest stretches of this reverse mock draft so far but losing a player the caliber of Sherman forces John Schneider to get creative here. These kinds of risks always seem to work out for the Seahawks anyway, so why not take their corner?
The Chargers are not too far away from being contenders in the AFC. They likely still have some time left with Rivers at the helm and can wait to get a QB. Their young duo of Melvin Ingram and Joey Bosa will be second to none one day.
That is why they can go secondary here. Jason Verrett is a solid corner and James can finally be the solid lock they have at safety. If the Chargers keep stacking their defense, it will not take much for Phillip Rivers to lead the offense. By the time the new stadium in Inglewood is open, LA might have two solid teams with James being a part of that.
