Round Three: Orlando Brown, T, Oklahoma

This one was a bit of a quandary. Nick Chubb was also available when the Jets went on the clock and he was almost the choice. However, in the battle between a weapon and a potential blind side blocker, the blocker wins every time. A great offensive line can hide a lot of problems and a bad one can make those problems look worse.

The Jets had a strong offensive line for a long time. Ever since D’Brickashaw Ferguson announced his retirement, that line went from a strength to a liability. It’s time to restore that strength and choosing the next Ferguson. So with Orlando Brown on the board he was the choice. At 6-8, 345 pounds he is one immense man. Despite poor testing at the Combine, he fits the profile of a potential left tackle.

Last week we did go with Chubb here and then took Jamarco Jones in the next round. This time we wait on the running back. Is Brown the perfect prospect? Nobody is. But Brown does come from good stock as his Dad played offensive line in the league for many years. Young Orlando needs to get a better knee bend to anchor against opponents better, but that can be taught. He has all the makings of a starting tackle in this league. Protecting the new franchise quarterback has to be of the utmost importance.
