player. Penn State. 1. RB. Saquon Barkley. 31. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis

Dave Gettleman has said that the second overall pick should be a future Hall of Famer. “Can you picture this guy putting on a gold jacket?” said Gettleman when asked about what he’s looking for with the No. 2 pick. Well, Saquon Barkley certainly has Hall of Fame potential. When you are described as “a better player than Ezekiel Elliott” and “the best running back prospect since Adrian Peterson“, you’re doing something right.

Barkley can do everything on the football field. He can run inside and outside of the tackles, he can catch the ball out of the backfield, and return kicks. He even threw for a touchdown while at Penn State! Not only is Barkley a beast on the field, but he’s a leader in the locker room and has great character. It’s no wonder why the Giants view Barkley as a “near-perfect prospect“.

Running back is not New York’s biggest need as they signed Jonathan Stewart this offseason, drafted Wayne Gallman in the fourth round last year, and drafted Paul Perkins in the fifth round the year before. However, Stewart is 31 years old, Gallman is unproven, and Perkins had a rough sophomore season after a promising rookie year. There are also very few running backs in the NFL right now who would prevent a team from drafting Saquon Barkley.

By drafting Barkley, the New York Giants add the draft’s most talented player who also comes with the least amount of risk. Barkley is a sure-fire All-Pro and has the best chance of anyone in this year’s class of putting on a gold jacket when his career is over. Gettleman can’t afford to pass on this can’t-miss prospect.
