The New York Jets used a significant chunk of their cap space this offseason to sign Trumaine Johnson to a five-year, $72.5 million contract. They were also able to re-sign Morris Claiborne to a one-year, $7 million deal. On paper, the Jets are set at cornerback with those two corners on the outside and Buster Skrine in the slot. However, Claiborne is playing on a one-year deal and Skrine is entering the final year of his contract. New York needs to look to the future.

Because of their current depth, the Jets don’t have to spend a high draft pick on a cornerback, but there are a few intriguing prospects when you get to the fifth round. One of those prospects is Christian Campbell. Campbell is a tall corner with good length, which he uses to close on receivers in off-coverage. Campbell could stand to improve his footwork and technique but certainly has the look of an NFL corner. He would be able to sit behind Johnson, Claiborne, and Skrine and eventually work his way into the rotation and join Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye in a young Jets secondary.

The Jets could also look at Holton Hill, Tarvarus McFadden, Nick Nelson, Anthony Averett, and Brandon Facyson at this point in the draft.
