EDGE. Dorance Armstrong Jr.. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 4. 30. Kansas

The New York Jets registered just 28 sacks in 2017, good for 28th in the NFL. To make things worse, the Jets released Muhammed Wilkerson this offseason. Wilkerson wasn’t giving max effort and deserved to be cut, but losing him certainly doesn’t help the pass rush. The Jets also lost middle linebacker Demario Davis in free agency. Davis led the team with five sacks last season. Putting pressure on the quarterback (especially Tom Brady) is key to winning in the NFL, so adding a pass rusher should be a focus for Gang Green.

Leonard Williams provides a solid presence on the defensive line, but New York needs edge rushers, particularly outside linebackers who can get after the quarterback. Jordan Jenkins had three sacks in 2017 and David Bass had 3.5. That won’t get the job done.

Gang Green should look to add a mid-round prospect who could eventually take over as a starter and should look no further than Dorance Armstrong Jr. Armstrong has good athleticism and was productive in college when he was allowed to focus on rushing the passer. Armstrong could contribute immediately as a situational pass rusher and could become a starting outside linebacker in a year or two. Other edge rushers to keep an eye on are Jeff Holland, Lorenzo Carter, and Tyquan Lewis.
