30. Pick Analysis. Oklahoma. Baker Mayfield. 1. player. Scouting Report. QB

The New York Jets brought back Josh McCown and signed Teddy Bridgewater, each on one-year deals. These two will battle it out for the starting quarterback gig in 2018, but the Jets are not committed to either long-term. If anyone was doubting that New York would still be drafting a quarterback, that was put to rest when Mike Maccagnan packaged three second-round picks and sent them to the Indianapolis Colts in order to move up to the third overall pick. The Jets will be taking a quarterback in the first round. The question is which one.

It doesn’t seem like the Jets have much interest in Josh Allen, with his low college completion percentage likely turning them off. Sam Darnold seems to have the attention of every NFL team, but I believe he’ll be the No. 1 overall pick of the Cleveland Browns. That leaves Josh Rosen and Baker Mayfield. Both Rosen and Mayfield have great talents but also have questions about their character.

Rosen has unbelievable footwork and throws a tight spiral that he can fit into any window. He also throws a beautiful deep ball and has the arm strength to make all the throws in the NFL. The issue is that Rosen rubs some people the wrong way and scouts question his love for football.

Mayfield can also make all the throws, is the most accurate passer in this year’s class, and can extend plays with his legs. His issues derive from being viewed as cocky and sometimes lacking judgment in the heat of competition.

The Jets go with Mayfield because they see his “cockiness” as confidence and they love his ability to rally his teammates together and take them into battle. Mayfield is ready for the New York spotlight and won’t shy away from the big moments. It won’t be long before getting the call that Mayfield starts envisioning taking down Tom Brady and Bill Belichick in Foxborough.
