Round Seven: Keke Coutee, WR, Texas Tech

Yes the Jets have seemingly one million wide receivers on the roster already, so the position is not exactly a pressing need. But,  the more weapons available to work with a young quarterback, the better. With that, the Jets select Keke Coutee from Texas Tech in the final round of the draft. A man who posted 93 catches and ten touchdowns last season had to be snatched up.

Coutee comes from a school that has brought the league talented receivers like Michael Crabtree and Wes Welker. He ran a 4.43 forty yard dash at the Combine so he isn’t exactly slow. Coutee only stands at 5-11 but he has the ability to get open and take the top off of a defense.

Coutee is a hands catcher which is exciting to watch. Stephen Hill wasn’t and we know how that translated into the NFL. Coutee has good hands and he turns it up the field on a dime. He gets going quickly and the defenders must gang up on him otherwise he will gain positive yards.

It would be just better to see Coutee get more experience running routes. Clearly he has talent. If Coutee can learn to run the NFL route tree he could very well be a big-time sleeper. He is certainly worth a shot in the final round.
