Round Three: Nick Chubb, RB, Georgia

The Jets have Georgia on their mind as they select Nick Chubb with their pick in the third round. Nothing helps a young quarterback more than good weapons. A reliable running game is a young quarterback’s best friend as they get their feet wet in the NFL. It’s with that in mind that when Chubb was on the board at number 72, he had to be the pick.

Matt Forte is gone. Elijah McGuire is back for his second year, but he has shown to be a complementary piece and that is it. Is anyone really excited about Thomas Rawls or Isaiah Crowell? We love Bilal Powell but for some reason, the Jets have never looked at him as more than a third down type of player. He is also turning 30. Another piece at running back would make a lot of sense.

Chubb is a guy that is explosive. For his Georgia career he averaged 6.3 yards per carry. As nasty knee injury as a sophomore brought his burst down a bit, but his statistics really didn’t suffer much. He went from averaging 7-8 yards per carry to averaging 5-6 yards per carry. Chubb is also very secure with the football which is a trait that will excite NFL scouts and coaches. The Jets would be well-served in snatching this guy up if he is still on the board.
