The NFL released the 2018 schedules for each team on Thursday and we now know who the New York Giants will face in Pat Shurmur’s debut season. How will Big Blue fare in the upcoming season?

The NFL released their 2018 schedule on Thursday and we were able to take a look at which teams the New York Giants will face in Pat Shurmur’s debut season as Big Blue’s head coach.

After a 10-6 record and trip to the playoffs in 2016, the Giants fell to 3-13 in 2017 and now own the No. 2 overall pick in the NFL Draft. It’s tough to tell which team the 2018 squad will be more like, especially with more talent to added in the draft. However, let’s make some early predictions on how Big Blue will fare this upcoming season before their Week 9 bye.

Week 1

The New York Giants open up the 2018 season with a very unfavorable matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars. In what will be advertised as a Tom Coughlin homecoming, Big Blue will be facing one of the league’s best defenses.

Even if the Giants add Dez Bryant and Saquon Barkley to join Odell Beckham Jr. and Evan Engram on offense, the Jaguars would counter with Jalen Ramsey, A.J. Bouye, Calais Campbell, Dante Fowler, and Myles Jack on defense.

It’s hard to know what to expect from Blake Bortles next season but the same can be said for Big Blue’s defense. Jacksonville’s addition of All-Pro guard Andrew Norwell and New York’s subtraction of Jason Pierre-Paul will also not work in the Giants’ favor. It’s entirely possible for the Giants to limit the Jaguars offense but the question is how effectively New York will be able to score on offense.
