2018 NFL Draft: New York Jets get their franchise quarterback in team mock
Round Seven: Brandon Facyson, CB, Virginia Tech
With the Jets final pick, we find another big cornerback to add to the depth chart. Enter Brandon Facyson from Virginia Tech. He stands at 6-2. Facyson defended 39 passes during his career at Virginia Tech. He recorded five interceptions but they were all during his freshman season. Still, his numbers read like a player that is around the football.
His speed isn’t elite. He ran the forty yard dash in 4.53 seconds, which isn’t bad either. But as we all know, straight line speed isn’t always the perfect indication of game speed. According to Zierlein, however, not only does he challenge throws consistently and effectively, he also is mature/well-liked in the locker room. He will fit in quite well.
This young man gets to the ball quite well, despite the lack of interceptions. He’s also hungry and another guy who has no trouble coming up to make a hit. When he does, it’s a solid one. Facyson has tackling ability that will track well into the pros.
He needs to improve at his anticipation. Watching the sparse clips I could find, he has a difficult time changing direction to anticipate routes of his opposing wide receivers. To see the field often he will need to get better. However, at his size, Brandon Facyson is worth a try in the seventh and final round.
