Pick Analysis. Penn State. Saquon Barkley. 31. Scouting Report. RB. 1. player

With the second overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, the New York Giants select … Saquon Barkley!

Barkley is the draft’s most talented player and it’s really not even close. The things he can do on the football field aren’t even fair. He can run inside and outside of the tackles, he can catch the ball out of the backfield, and he can return kicks. “Playmaker” is an understatement when describing Barkley.

But “playmaker” is an understatement when describing Odell Beckham Jr. and he’s been a headache for the Giants and their fans this offseason. We don’t want another diva! Not to worry, Barkley is a model citizen off the field. He’s a high character individual and has great leadership skills. If you hear Barkley interviewed, he just wants to be a great football player and has a different way of expressing it than OBJ.

The Giants have drafted running backs in each of the last two years, but Paul Perkins (2016 fifth round) and Wayne Gallman (2017 fourth round) are not bell-cow running backs. They’ve both shown flashes but not enough to hand either of them the keys to the backfield. Plus, Dave Gettleman did not draft either one of them. Gettleman did bring in Jonathan Stewart but he’s 31 years old and his best years are behind him.

There isn’t anyone on the Giants roster who would prevent them from drafting Saquon Barkley. Todd Gurley, Melvin Gordon, Le’Veon Bell, Ezekiel Elliott, Leonard Fournette, and David Johnson are probably the only players in the entire league who would stop a team from drafting Barkley.

By drafting Barkley, the New York Giants get the best player in the draft and send a “win-now” message to the team and fan base.
