The New York Islanders did many things to waste the season. Perhaps the biggest waste ties everything else together. The Islanders front office did the hockey equivalent of throwing in the towel.

The New York Islanders were hot until they hit a cold streak. During the cold streak in the middle of the season came the NHL trade deadline at which the Islanders did nothing.

Instead of trying to improve or admitting they were rebuilding, they did next to nothing.

What does that mean? How was it a waste? Because it shows zero direction. Some teams who sell at the deadline do it for the greater good of the future. Teams that buy at the deadline do it for the greater good of the present.

The New York Islanders wasted this season at the trade deadline. By showing no direction, there is zero way of knowing what the future holds. The whole point of playing a season is to at least see where you are at.

No matter how many times I say it or how many times I write articles about it, the New York Islanders’ lack of moves at the trade deadline is unacceptable. It wasted the season in a huge way.

Overall, aside from a few more things, this season was forgettable. There is nothing wrong with being glad that it is over.

Just enjoy the NHL playoffs, Islanders fans. At least they will be stress-free.
