The New York Islanders fans had a rough year during the 2017-2018 season. The team looks far away from the one that won a playoff series two seasons ago. But with all the ugly, there was some good which is where they wasted the season.

The New York Islanders did get off to a hot start and were playing fun, but one-dimensional hockey in the early stretch of the season. However, the lack of defense and eventual effort caught up to them when it mattered the most.

The Isles were a hot mess and the management completely wasted the trade deadline and once again did nothing to improve a relatively weak roster.

Yes, it was an awful season. But there are some things that were good. Mostly being individual accolades.

Once again the Stanley Cup playoffs will be happening with the Islanders watching from their couches. It’s always aggravating and at this point it’s unacceptable.

But now that we have all had some time to sleep on it, there are some special things that happened with zero results to show for it.

Now, I am not trying to play a “what could have been” game here. Even making the playoffs would have meant an early exit for this roster but once you think about some things the Islanders had, it makes Garth Snow’s high job security even more alarming.

Let’s provide five of the many ways this season was a complete waste. Some of these things might help in looking forward to the future but we have all fallen for that before.

Here is the list. The order is up to you!
