The New York Mets are not only winning but they are winning against their fellow NL East brethren already. They have already set a tone that they might be the team to beat in the division.

The New York Mets just swept the Nationals in a huge road series, they took care of their shortened series at home against the Phillies, and took the series opener against the Marlins on Monday. This makes the Mets unbeaten in their division so far. Granted it is only six games but still the absolute best scenario.

To add-on, by the end of the next two weeks, the Mets will already have played every single team in their division. Playing everyone early on is important but also playing well against them gives the Mets breathing room that every team could use in the dog days of summer.

Although a lot of teams who start off well fizzle out and teams who start off bad end up thriving, the fact that the Mets swept the Nats and a completely revamped Phillies team sets a positive vibe in the locker room and the standings.

The Braves are also off to a surprisingly hot start and the Nats a surprising poor one. The Mets’ clutch last three games in DC put them in a great position. Sitting in first place after the first week of the season will give them a ton of confidence.
