Loser: Anthony Swarzak

Despite the bullpen’s success, Anthony Swarzak went down with a muscle strain that has landed him on the DL. Swarzak left the game Saturday showing signs of pain on his left side. The newly acquired Swarzak made just two appearances before being injured, allowing one run and one walk in that span. The New York Mets signed Swarzak to a two-year, $14 million deal in the offseason after he spent last season with the Chicago White Sox and Milwaukee Brewers.

While Swarzak was placed on the 10-day DL, there is no word on the extent of the injury or his expected time of return. The team is hoping that the injury is minor and Swarzak could return upon the completion of his 10 days on the disabled list.

Swarzak was also injured during a spring training game while trying to cover first base, which left him with a calf strain. After coming back from that injury, the pitcher appeared to be healthy and ready for a full season. This muscle strain is concerning for an organization that just signed him to a multi-year deal and has seen two injuries before the second week of April.

To replace Swarzak, the Mets brought up Hansel Robles. In his first outing, Robles struck out the side on 14 pitches. While Robles had success on Wednesday, Mets fans are well aware of his struggles in the past. Robles struggled mightily in spring training, which earned him a spot on the Las Vegas Triple-A team.
