The New York Mets are set to play their first full month of the 2018 season in April. They start out the month on Sunday by finishing up their opening series against the Cardinals. Here is what lies ahead for the team in our Mets preview for April.

The MLB does have extra off days at the beginning of the season for all teams, but the month of April is still jam-packed for the Blue and Orange. In April, the New York Mets play the Cardinals to start the month on the first then end it in San Diego on the 29th.

April is not the most important month of the season and there are still many question marks for the Mets and their opponents to answer. But by having a successful month the Mets will be able to gain some confidence and set a good tone for the summer months.

The Mets will play three straight series against division opponents. They have the Phillies, Nationals, and Marlins from April 2-11.

After that, they briefly play the Brewers, a team who had their number last season. But then after that, they go back to divisional opponents in the Nationals again and the Braves.

The Washington series is at home, then they begin a 10-game road trip with four straight in Atlanta from April 19-22.

The road trip finishes with three in St. Louis, which is followed by three games in San Diego.

In April, the Mets will see the Cardinals again. They will also see the reigning NL East champion Washington Nationals twice.

Those games can potentially be huge if the division race is tight at the end of the year. Looking back at the Mets’ division heavy start to the season will be a discussion point down the stretch.

New York will not see an AL opponent in April. The Mets play at least one team from all three NL divisions. It is good to tread that kind of water in the first month.

With Mickey Callaway’s fine attention to detail and how often he goes off his observations, playing a lot of important opponents early prepares the Mets for a more integral part of the season.

Overall, the New York Mets will play 10 home games and 16 road games in April. If this team can overcome all that, then it will look really sharp for Callaway as his first season truly heats up.
