QB. UCLA. Josh Rosen. 3. 30. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. player

The New York Jets traded up with the Indianapolis Colts for one reason and one reason only and that’s to draft their franchise quarterback.

The Jets used their league-leading cap space to address their secondary this offseason, signing Trumaine Johnson and re-signing Morris Claiborne. They also added a starting running back in Isaiah Crowell, a starting middle linebacker in Avery Williamson, and a starting center in Spencer Long. But quarterback is still their biggest need.

New York did not neglect the sport’s most important position this offseason by any means. They finished second in the Kirk Cousins sweepstakes and then pivoted by re-signing Josh McCown and bringing in Teddy Bridgewater, each on one-year deals. Obviously, no one on a one-year deal can be counted on as part of your future but that’s where the NFL Draft comes in.

Many Jets fans want to see Baker Mayfield take on the Big Apple, but after trading up three spots, they are able to secure Josh Rosen. Rosen has a great arm, tight spiral, and throws a phenomenal deep ball. Rosen has character issues related to his attitude but the same argument can be made for Mayfield. In terms of on-field play, Rosen is more NFL-ready and less of a risk.
