One week into free agency, here’s our first crack at an entire first-round NFL mock draft.

Every NFL team’s needs change throughout the offseason. Teams fill certain needs and have other needs open up as they cut players to make cap room for others. This year, NFL trade season was more active than in year’s past and the free agent market has also been busy. As needs change, so do NFL mock drafts.

Now that the first week of free agency has passed and some of the dust has settled, we take our first crack at an entire first-round NFL mock draft. As the second and third waves of free agency develop, we’ll have to adjust our selections but here’s our first go around!

At this point in our NFL mock draft series, no trades are involved aside from the ones that have already been agreed to.

USC. 53. QB. Sam Darnold. 1. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis

Yes, I realize that Tyrod Taylor is now on the Cleveland Browns but he’s a bridge quarterback at best. When Cleveland traded for Taylor, Saquon Barkley seemed like a lock to be the No. 1 pick, but the Browns have since signed Carlos Hyde. While Hyde does not rule out Barkley to the Browns, they are now more likely to see if he’s still around when they are back on the clock at pick No. 4.

The Browns and their fans have been starved of a franchise quarterback for what seems like forever. Tyrod will certainly help them Cleveland win games in 2018, but beyond that, the quarterback position is still a question mark for the Browns.

Sam Darnold is widely considered the top quarterback prospect in this year’s draft. He struggled with turnovers at USC but can make all the NFL throws and is a high-character guy. Darnold would be able to spend his rookie year adjusting to the NFL lifestyle while Taylor leads the Browns.

Cleveland has had a massive offseason thus far, but they’ll need to hit on a majority of their many draft picks in order to become future contenders. If they can draft their future quarterback with the first overall pick, they’ll have plenty of options to use their remaining draft picks to add immediate contributors.
