New York Rangers: It’s time to call up Andersson and Chytil
In a lost season where the New York Rangers are spending the remaining games honing their young roster, there is no reason why their top two prospects should not be getting experience.
It’s time for the New York Rangers to call up their two young gun forward prospects in Lias Andersson and Filip Chytil.
There are nine games left on the season and the playoffs have been out of the picture for weeks. Realistically both should make the team out of camp next season and I think it would be wise to have the get their feet wet before the offseason.
From the looks of it, it is very likely that Andersson will be making his NHL debut Thursday in Philadelphia which will be exciting for fans to get a glimpse at.

Andersson, who was selected seventh overall in last year’s draft, currently holds 14 points on the Hartford Wolfpack in the AHL. He is a poised center that plays a 200-foot game and came to the AHL midway through the season after being recalled from Sweden.
Chytil, who was drafted 21st overall, made the Rangers out of camp in October, but only lasted on the roster for two games as it was apparent he was not ready.
Since then he has settled in playing in the AHL as he has tallied 31 points in 44 games and has been one of the Wolfpack’s most offensively reliant players.
It seems as if it would only be common sense to call up Chytil if they are going to give Andersson a chance, but there has not been any specific plans announced yet.
Honestly, I don’t understand why this hasn’t happened sooner. The Rangers announced their plans for the season in early February and after they made their moves, I think these two guys should’ve been called up as early as the end of February after they knew what their roster looked like.
There is no reason for Cody McLeod, Peter Holland, David Desharnais and Paul Carey to be filling up those fourth line spots in these games when it is likely none of them will be around next season.
I could see maybe Carey being resigned for a very short-term deal, but come next year these two kids will be much more important than any of those four if they were to return.
When they claimed McLeod off waivers a couple of months ago, the move said to me that they were making a playoff push and they needed a player like him in the lineup for some spark.

Yet given all that has happened since along with where the Rangers sit at this point in the season, I can only ask myself why he is still on my television screen.
Sure, he’s been in some good fights and can lay some hits, but that is what was needed when the plans were playing in April, not when the remainder of the season is a tryout for next year.
I think we’ll see at least Andersson this week if not Chytil as well and I am excited to see how they fair and what they can offer to this new Rangers look.
