New York Mets send Tim Tebow down to minor league camp.

The New York Mets finally begin to get this situation right. Everyone knows that I have been calling for this for quite some time. I’ve written about it and told everyone that I know that I feel this way. Frankly, friends and family are tired of hearing about. Thanks to the Mets making a move they won’t have to hear me rant about this guy for a while.

The Mets have made a roster move and have demoted Tim Tebow down to minor league camp. As of the writing of this post, the team hasn’t announced where he is going to start the season although there have been rumors that he may begin with AA Binghamton. My decision on his assignment to the minors will be reserved until they announce where he is headed.

No matter how anyone feels about this guy, and he does have a lot of fans, this was a long time coming. It probably should have happened already. He finally gets the call after going 1-18 this Spring. In his final performance, he went 0-4 with four strikeouts against the Houston Astros.

His fans are likely going to be disappointed but this move had to happen. If his name wasn’t Tebow he likely would have been on the outside looking in already. He has been overmatched by all big-league level pitching. He isn’t close to being ready.

According to Anthony DiComo, Tebow referenced his ankle injury more than once when talking about his Spring. He never directly blamed it for his poor play but did reference that he couldn’t do as much as he wanted to.

To me that is an excuse. Sure he wasn’t able to play the field. They deemed him healthy enough to play designated hitter so him could get quality at bats. If he believed he was ready he should have put the bat on the ball more often. Now is not the time to go too far, I’ve done that already in previous writings.

This was the right move for the Mets to make, plain and simple. We will see soon enough if they make the right move with his minor league assignment. Tim Tebow is not ready to play in the big leagues and despite what Sandy Alderson says may never be. At the very least he will be on the older side when he is ready.
