Trumaine Johnson

We went under the radar for the first couple of choices so we go back on the radar here.

The Jets need help on the outside. Morris Claiborne had a good first half of the year, fell off in the second and may not even be back in 2018. The rest of the depth chart at the position left something to be desired last year. They have been associated with the name Minkah Fitzpatrick at the top of the draft but the Jets are likely to at least attempt this route through free agency.

Trumaine Johnson will be on a lot of team’s wish lists as well as the Jets, and with good reason. He is one talented corner. In his six-year career, he only had one season where he didn’t post multiple interceptions, posting only one. He has posted 18 so far in his career and returned three of them for touchdowns. Johnson has also defended 67 passes in his career, forced two fumbles and recovered three. Trumaine can find the football.

Todd Bowles likes to employ big corners while he blitzes like a mad man. He needs big guys to stick like glue to their men on the outside. Johnson stands at 6-1 making him a perfect fit. People talk about Malcolm Butler and while it would be nice to get one of Belichick’s former players on the Jets, at 5-11 he is simply too small. Johnson would be the much preferable choice. Whether they end up with Cousins or not they will have enough money for to make a run at this big-ticket corner. Go for it.
