Money Talks

More from Empire Writes Back

Most of these guys talk about the fact that it isn’t just the money that drives them. Kirk Cousins is no different. He has publicly made the comments that for him it is not all about the money. Kirk says that he simply wants to win and that is very noble of them. No player is going to admit to wanting to get paid.

The fact is, however, that money talks. The shelf life of an NFL football player is not long and they don’t get many chances to get paid. Cousins is 29 going on 30 years old. Make no mistake, he is aware that THIS is his time to get the big money. Despite what he says, he wants the big money and he knows which teams are able to give it to him as well. The Jets wouldn’t be a rumored finalist for his services if he wasn’t aware.

To be fair, he does want something else. He wants to be treated better than the Redskins treated him. They kept giving him the franchise tag, essentially tying him to the team, but never treated him well. He never got credit for his play and even was called Kurt Cousins on at least one occasion. I can guarantee that the JEts would treat him far better than that.
