Round One: Bradley Chubb, DE, NC State

More from Empire Writes Back

"Chubb is regarded by many to be the best defensive prospect in this year’s class. He has a deep arsenal of pass rush moves, an explosive first step, and is a capable run defender. Chubb also has an extremely high motor and is a team leader."

I honestly love this pick. If the quarterback position is already spoken for, this is a perfect time to fix the pass rush. Even if they aren’t done at QB, if they can’t get the one they want and don’t want to trade down, they could stay up there and take this guy.

Why do I feel this way? How many times have we seen the Jets in position to win a game, only to be stymied by the opponent in the waning seconds of the game? It happens a lot with the Jets because they don’t have the sack artist to close out games.

Chubb posted 25 sacks in four years of college. That makes him easily the best pass rusher on the current Jets. There hasn’t been a consistently effective pass rusher on this team since John Abraham and that was a long time ago. It is quite glorious to imagine this guy going after Tom Brady. With them allowing players like Vic Beasley and Bud Dupree to sign with other teams, the Jets are hungry to finally get their own and he is the reason.
