2018 NFL Mock Draft: New York Jets 3-round mock 6.0
By Sean Dyer
We’ve gone over how the New York Jets need to address their pass rush after finishing 28th in the NFL with just 28 sacks in 2017. Releasing Muhammad Wilkerson certainly won’t help generate a pass rush in 2018, even if it helps the salary cap.
The top two free agent pass rushers are Demarcus Lawrence and Ziggy Ansah. Ansah has been franchise tagged and Lawrence is likely to be, making Bradley Chubb as the best available pass rusher for the Jets. The only question is whether or not he’ll be available with the No. 6 pick rolls around.
Of the five teams picking before the Jets, the Browns and Broncos are looking for a quarterback, the Giants will likely either take a quarterback or Saquon Barkley, and I think the Colts end up drafting Quenton Nelson. Therefore, Chubb could be available and Mike Maccagnan would have a third player fall in his lap at sixth overall, joining Leonard Williams in 2015 and Jamal Adams in 2017.
Chubb is regarded by many to be the best defensive prospect in this year’s class. He has a deep arsenal of pass rush moves, an explosive first step, and is a capable run defender. Chubb also has an extremely high motor and is a team leader.
Jon Dove of With the First Pick believes Chubb is one of the best prospects in this year’s class:
"Chubb is a top-flight prospect who should hear his named called early in the 2018 NFL Draft. His combination of natural talent and production is what evaluators look for in a defensive end prospect."
If Chubb makes it to pick No. 6, the New York Jets should run up to hand in their draft card.
