The New Jersey Devils ended February on a high-note. As March approaches they find themselves sitting in a playoff spot. The Devils need a big month to keep it that way.

What lies ahead for the New Jersey Devils in March?

Hopefully, the return of Cory Schneider is the first thing that comes to mind. Another thing that comes to mind is seeing how much longer Taylor Hall can stay red-hot.

The Devs had a solid deadline, acquiring Patrick Maroon and Michael Grabner without giving up too much. But now, they need to execute.

New Jersey plays 15 games in the month so they will be very busy. They have a slight cushion in the playoff standings, therefore, slight room for error. That is a clear advantage.

If the Devils can get healthy and get back to clicking on all cylinders, they have a shot at top three in the Metro.

More from Empire Writes Back

The Devils have a Western Conference heavy March. They play five straight road games on the West coast starting March 10 in Nashville, Vegas, Los Angeles, Anaheim, and San Jose. Those games will be tough but if they have home success early in the month, they would allow themselves to not have a road trip make or break their season.

Perhaps the team’s biggest advantage in terms of the schedule lies at the end. They close out the month, and practically the season, with four straight home games, all within the conference.

For the Devils, it is all about hanging on at this point. They only play a handful of division games in March, so to be a real threat for the division title, they need to rely on other teams collapsing.

They can, however, keep up with where they are. With a good balance of home and road games, New Jersey can settle for just getting a point on the road and work on saving most of the winning for when they’re at home.

If the Devs get healthy and keep up with where they are, they will most likely get even better. March is a hectic month but it is time for the new additions to gel and for the team to dial in.
