It’s Baker Mayfield to the New York Jets in the recent 2018 NFL Mock Draft by Charles Davis.
The NFL Combine is this week, New York Jets fans. That means the NFL draft is getting closer and closer. Time is drawing near for the stars of tomorrow to impress the NFL and make their case for being selected. That means all of the versions of the 2018 NFL Mock Draft will be coming at you from all sides of the spectrum. Until the event goes down, speculation is our game.
Charles Davis, for anyone who isn’t aware, is a football analyst for the NFL Network and NFL.com. He has joined the mock draft fray recently by putting in his first mock of the season. There will be more but this one gets the ball rolling. It will serve as a jump off point for today’s discussion, Davis selection for the Jets in mock number one
The answer is Baker Mayfield:
"“Broadway Baker” has a ring to it. He has the skill set, and personality, to embrace NYC."

If the Kirk Cousins scenario falls by the wayside, this is a scenario that is likely to occur. From everything that has come out to date, the team seems the most interested in Mayfield and Josh Allen. I know that out of those two, the fan base would FAR prefer Mayfield.
I am not a huge fan of selecting Mayfield. Clearly this opinion is a minority opinion, but I have written that I don’t see a great pro in Mayfield. After studying him on tape, he doesn’t read as a guy who becomes a prolific passer at the next level like Russell Wilson and/or Cam Newton.
And the fact that he could be called “Broadway Baker” means nothing, other than how to be corny and try to reinvent the past.
To be fair, however, it is hard to argue the fact that Mayfield was accurate in college:

He just won’t have the same types of windows when he gets to the NFL. Mayfield will have a tough time completing the passes he did in college at the same rate unless he cleans up his footwork very quickly.
Next: Bring Trumaine Johnson to the Jets
In this scenario I would prefer to see the Jets trade up for a player like Josh Rosen. He is just so much more ready for the NFL than anyone else in the class. He is more polished and ready to step in and play. Failing that, stay at six or move back and take either an offensive lineman or a pass rusher. Address the quarterback on day two with someone like Luke Falk.
