What Will the Snow Bring?

The trade deadline should be exciting times for fans of teams right on the cusp of the playoffs.

However, it is the New York Islanders. The same New York Islanders that have missed the playoffs more than they have made them recently. It does not help that the Islanders look like a team 20 points out instead of one.

With the deadline happening less than 20 games before the regular season ends its can put the Isles over the edge. Although it still might not be likely this team has anything left to contend the deadline is still important to their future.

Snow and company typically do very little to improve. They sort of try but do more shuffling around and staying mediocre than improve the roster.

However, the 26th deadline is still key. The Islanders have yet to say they are throwing in the towel on the season. This could be because they have a trick up their sleeves.

The Isles are in need of defense and goaltending. A lesser need is offense beyond the second line.

The latter issue can be solved within the organization but I won’t get into that again.

Getting defense can be done through a trade. Picks or rental players for a top-notch defensive minded player could be a move. I suggest keeping an eye out for that.

Another issue Snow can fix this deadline is the goaltending. The Isles do not need just a “rental” they need a future franchise goalie. The top goalie prospects are years away from the NHL and the one is playing in the Olympics right now.

So, the Isles can let Jaroslav Halak go for another goalie and just get everyone new scenery.

All these are options for the Islanders as we approach the deadline.

It is the Isles so take these ideas with a grain of salt. The ineptitude has gone so far that the Isles are more likely to do nothing than the right thing.
